As kjaggard said, it's dependant on how you use it.
?
If anything Facebook has made social gatherings far more common amongst my friends and myself. Since we all finished high school Facebook has been our primary means for ensuring everyone knows about an event before it happens. We use it for organizing and promoting local concerts, house parties, and lately almost like a cell phone replacement. Generally I use Facebook messaging more than text messaging, since so many people have smartphones now it's basically the same thing, the notification reaches the same place. Like kjaggard, I also use Facebook to keep in touch with my mother a lot more efficiently than before, she's also happier with Facebook now that she has access to my pictures and music that she didn't have access to before. Facebook is obviously very useful for sharing news and creative works as well. If people want to be social and want to preserve their relationships Facebook does provide an excellent interface to do so, if people only use it for posting pictures of their food or vague status updates that's their prerogative, not Zuckerberg or the company's fault.?
